Interview Insights - January 19

Zhan Jun-Xuan

What impressed me the most was that Mr. Chen Guang-Jing originally worked elsewhere, but because of a single sentence from his child, he was willing to take financial risks to return to Beidou and establish Tian Ye Qin Xue to be with his family. This made me feel how much he values his family, and I was truly moved.

Chen Yan-Xin

Regarding the process of planting soybeans, what impressed me most was when Mr. Chen Guang-Jing could not find enough manpower, a farmer said: "Soybeans are safest inside the pods." This sentence made him let go of his anxiety, follow nature, and eventually complete the harvest successfully. This story made me feel that the power of nature is important and taught people patience.
Xu Kai-Hong

What impressed me the most was the phrase "Soybeans are safest inside the pods." Because I originally thought soybeans should be harvested immediately after ripening, but after listening to Mr. Chen Guang-Jing's sharing, I learned that sometimes following nature is the best way. It taught me a different perspective on agriculture.

Chen Ying-Yun

Mr. Chen said that he initially thought natural farming was simple, but after actually getting involved, he discovered there are many things to pay attention to. However, this method is better for the land because no chemical agents are used. Mr. Chen also shared a story about an elderly Japanese man who could grow good fruit without pesticides, which made me feel that although natural farming is hard work, it is very worthwhile.
Qiu Zi-Rong

What impressed me the most was when Mr. Chen said that every stage is full of challenges, and just developing a new product requires a cost of nearly one million NTD. I feel that this is truly not easy and is really expensive.

Li Jia-En

Mr. Chen Guang-Jing explained that diseases and pests are divided into two types: diseases and pests, and he adopts environmentally friendly control methods. This topic impressed me because it not only protects the environment but also helps soybeans grow healthily. I think this is a very good agricultural method.
Lin Fang-Yu

What impressed me the most was when Mr. Chen Guang-Jing mentioned that soybeans are very water-efficient, needing irrigation only two or three times from planting to harvest, and too much water is actually bad. Hearing this, I thought of the soybeans we planted at school, which we watered a lot, and it made me worry about our soybean harvest.

Zhang Zhen-Yun

During the interview, Mr. Chen Guang-Jing mentioned that he chose to plant soybeans after hearing an agricultural senior mention during farming that Taiwan's soybean production is insufficient and better quality soybeans rely heavily on imports; therefore, it was suggested he could try planting soybeans. Under such an opportunity, he committed himself to soybean farming with a learning mindset, gradually embarking on the path of promoting domestic soybeans. I therefore also understand better why he chose the "Kaohsiung No. 10" variety for planting.
Visit Reflections - January 29

Chen Yan-Xin

Today's visit made me feel extremely excited from head to toe. As soon as I arrived at the market of Tian Ye Qin Xue, I realized it was different from regular markets, and I really liked the overall design. Then we went to the base to make tofu pudding by hand, which was fragrant and soft, and it tasted really delicious with sugar water. Afterward, we went to the fields to harvest soybeans and found that the beans they grow have large grains, which are very different from the small soybeans we grow, letting me know that planting soybeans actually requires more effort. Finally, we got soy milk and a large bag of soybeans, and also learned a lot of important knowledge. It was truly a fulfilling day.

Qiu Zi-Rong

We visited the Beidou Red Brick Market, where Mr. Chen led us through the history of the market, including the traces left by a fire, and how the ceiling was originally intended to be sealed with bricks but was later changed to use light-transmitting materials due to poor lighting and ventilation. Then we went to Tian Ye Qin Xue to experience making tofu pudding. Finally, we answered questions, received a bottle of soy milk, and learned a lot of new knowledge. It was a very enriching learning journey.
Chen Ding-Lin

During the process of making tofu pudding, although the steps seemed simple, it was not easy in practice; for example, controlling the time was necessary—not too fast or too slow—and paying attention to the angle of pouring the soy milk was also important. This felt very different from making tofu, because making tofu only requires pressing, while making tofu pudding was more challenging. While visiting the Red Brick Market, I also learned that Beidou was once the fourth largest township in Taiwan, and compared to its current appearance, the contrast felt very great.

Xu Kai-Hong

At the beginning, we listened to Mr. Chen Guang-Jing's explanation at the Beidou Red Brick Market and saw a stall called "Mei-Yun Fruit Stand," which surprised me. Then we went to Tian Ye Qin Xue to make tofu pudding. I felt a bit nervous and scared at first, but finally completed it successfully and received a bottle of soy milk, learning a lot of knowledge about soybeans. It was truly a fruitful journey.
Chen Ying-Yun

This was my first time to the Red Brick Market, and Mr. Chen shared many stories with us, mentioning that the market once had a fire, which is why the bricks on the walls look black, and the ceiling was changed to use light-transmitting materials. Mr. Chen also introduced a lot of Beidou's history. I think he is very enthusiastic; whenever we have questions, he explains them very patiently.

Zhang Zhen-Yun

Today we went to Tian Ye Qin Xue together. Before setting off, we visited the Red Brick Market. Some parts of the walls were darker in color, which I heard were marks left by a past fire, but they are still sturdy. Mr. Chen said that many community activities are held here. After arriving at Tian Ye Qin Xue, we interviewed Mr. Chen while eating tofu pudding, and then everyone went into the fields together to harvest the big, yellow pods. After taking a group photo, the teacher asked us to answer questions, and I was really surprised that everyone got a bottle of soy milk.
Li Jia-En

I think this visit activity was fantastic. We went to the Red Brick Market first, saw a stall selling tofu pudding, and Mr. Chen also took us on a tour of the entire market. The most special thing is that the red bricks in the market are blackish in color because a fire caused by faulty wiring happened before. Afterward, we went to Tian Ye Qin Xue to experience making tofu pudding. I learned that when pouring the soy milk, you have to do it in one go and not stop. Then we went into the fields to harvest soybeans, took a large group photo, and finally everyone received a portion of soybeans. I was really happy.

Song Wei-Han

I feel that making tofu pudding is more difficult than making tofu because although the process looks simple, there are actually many techniques involved that require great concentration. While visiting the Red Brick Market, I also learned about the history of Beidou and was very surprised to find out that Beidou was once the fourth largest settlement in Taiwan, ranking after "Tainan, Lukang, and Wanhua."
Zhan Jun-Xuan

This interview activity allowed me to understand the Tian Ye Qin Xue organization better, and also gave me a new understanding of the culture and history of the Red Brick Market. I discovered that many things that seem simple actually require a lot of effort and hard work behind the scenes, which is very different from my original thoughts. This interview taught me a lot; it was truly a rare learning experience.
